About IOMAD

What is IOMAD?

Put simply, IOMAD is a suite of plugins built on top of the Moodle software to provide multi-tenancy functionality, with devolved course and user management capabilities per-tenant.

Where can I get IOMAD?

You can download the latest code via the IOMAD Github repository. We recommend having your site under Git control, as this makes the upgrade process much easier. But, you can download the package as a zip file and install it that way if you prefer. You can find the IOMAD installation guide here.

How much does it cost?

IOMAD is (and always will be) free and open-source software. All development is under GPL.

Can I try IOMAD out before I install it?

Yes - have a look around the Demo site to get a feel for how IOMAD works in action.

Who maintains IOMAD?

IOMAD and its documentation is developed and maintained by e-Learn Design. Developments are prioritised by client sponsorship, community requests, and IOMAD team enthusiasm for any concept they find particularly intriguing after they’ve all had too much coffee.

Do you offer commercial support for IOMAD?

Short answer - yes.

What does "IOMAD" stand for?

"IOMAD" is - contrary to popular belief - not an acronym. The name IOMAD comes from the Scottish Gaelic "iomad" (or "iomadh") - meaning "many", "various", or "diverse". Built in Scotland

Where can I report a bug?

If you've found a problem with the IOMAD software, please raise an issue on Github. If you've found a problem with the documentation, read on...

About this site

What is this site for?

The IOMAD Documentation is intended as a repository of technical information about the IOMAD software. If you're a site administrator, developer, or prospective IOMAD user looking for technical details, you're in the right place.

The Documentation does not cover core Moodle features, except where they integrate directly with IOMAD or where functionality is modified by the IOMAD framework. If you're looking for documentation on a Moodle-specific feature, try the community-maintained Moodle Docs.

I've found a missing page!

The IOMAD Docs are a work in progress - IOMAD has been around since 2010, so we've got plenty to catch up on... If you notice any particularly glaring gaps or if you'd like to request a specific article, please leave a comment in our documentation requests thread.

I've read the docs, but I'm still confused...

If you're new to IOMAD and are looking for a more general overview of the functionality, try the IOMAD Knowledge Base for a slightly less technical explanation of some common IOMAD features, or read the FAQs on the IOMAD website.

How do I get in touch?

You can reach out via email to info@iomad.org, or by using the contact form on our website.
